The price moves with which parts failed and with whether the work reaches the framing around the opening.
The price range we quote most often
Torsion spring replacement runs $150 to $325. Cable repair or replacement runs the same $150 to $325. A typical range is something we can talk through by phone, and the firm number is set after we see the door and the work involved.
Those figures are for the repair itself, not a new door. A door that keeps breaking part after part may be past repairing, and if that's what we see, a replacement is quoted on its own.

What moves the price within that range
The spring and the cables work as one set. A spring job and a cable job sit in the same price band, but the work changes depending on what we find. A worn cable may be the only problem, or the whole assembly may need replacing. We inspect the full assembly before we quote, so you aren't surprised by a second failure a few weeks later.
Rollers are part of the same check. We replace worn ones and watch how they move in the tracks, because a roller that binds loads the spring and cable harder than they should be loaded.
Kokomo's weather adds wear. Summers are hot and humid, and winters are cold with heavy snow, so the seals and moving hardware deal with moisture and freezing both. When we're out for a spring or cable, we look at the seals and hardware and tell you what has worn.

When a job needs a permit
Spring, cable and roller work leaves the opening and its framing alone. Changing the garage-door opening or the structure that supports it is different. Kokomo lists structural modifications as building-permit work, so we confirm the permit requirements with the city before that kind of job starts. Indiana's current residential code is the 2020 Indiana Residential Code, which is based on the 2018 International Residential Code with Indiana amendments, and structural work has to meet it. Permit and structural work is quoted separately from a standard repair.
Budgeting for the repair
For a spring or cable repair, plan on $150 to $325. Anything else we spot on the visit gets named with a cost attached, and the decision to fix it now or put it off is yours.
A door that is noisy, moving unevenly or not sealing is worth getting looked at before it fails completely. Once a spring or cable lets go, the door doesn't operate.
What we do when we come out
We look the door over and tell you what's wrong before we quote. On a spring or cable job, we install the spring, pulley and cable system, secure the door sections and connect the opener. We then run a contact-reversal test with a 2×4 block laid flat in the door's path, so the door is confirmed to reverse when it meets an obstruction.
The quote covers the part, the labor and anything we find connected to the problem. If something can safely wait, we note it and leave it alone. If something is going to cause a failure, we tell you.
