When they flatten, corrode or seize, the door grinds, wobbles or binds, and you end up fighting it instead of letting it glide. Roller replacement fixes that. We swap the worn rollers, reuse your existing hinges where they're sound, and lubricate the new rollers as they go in.
What the rollers do and how they fail
A steel track runs down each side of the door. The rollers sit inside it, each held by a hinge bolted to the door. Every time the door moves, every roller carries part of the load. Over time they flatten where they meet the track, seize from corrosion, or crack. A flat roller doesn't roll, it drags, and that drag works its way into the hinges and the track. Kokomo sits in climate zone 5A with cold winters, and a roller that's already stiff is one more thing the door has to push through on a cold morning.

Signs the rollers are the problem
Grinding or popping as the door moves is the most common one. Others are a wobble as the door travels, a stutter or drag in a door that used to glide, and visible flat spots or rust on the roller wheels. Rollers rarely fail all at once. It starts as noise, becomes a rough ride, and ends with a door that is hard to lift by hand. When the track looks straight but the door shows these symptoms, we pull a roller and look at the wheel before anything else. Catching it at the noise stage is cheaper than waiting until a roller that no longer rolls bends the track.

How we replace them
Each roller sits in a hinge on the door. We insert the replacement roller into the existing hinge and lubricate it. From there it goes into the track at an angle, the hinge holes line up, and the hinge is bolted back to the door. We repeat that for each roller being replaced.
While each old roller is out, we look at the hinge it came from. If a hinge is bent or corroded, we tell you, because a fresh roller in a bad hinge won't hold up. If the track has been pushed out of shape by a dragging roller, we point that out too. Swapping rollers doesn't touch the door opening or its supporting structure. If you're planning to change either one, Kokomo lists structural modifications as building-permit work, so confirm with the city first.
What it costs and how long it takes
Rollers for a full replacement run $19 to $55 in materials. Time on site scales with the roller count, whether the whole set is going or only the worst ones, and whether the hinges or track need work. Bent hinges or a pushed track add cost, and we quote that extra separately before starting it, so you can have it done the same visit or put it off.
